Repair or replace?

Signs it's time for a new system

If two or more of these sound familiar, a replacement usually costs less over the next five years than keeping the old one running.

It's 15 years or older

Most furnaces and AC units lose efficiency fast after year 12. Parts get pricier and harder to find.

Bills keep climbing

Same thermostat, same weather, higher bills? The system is working harder to do less.

Repairs every season

A rule of thumb: if a repair costs more than half the price of a new system, replace it.

Uneven rooms

One room freezing, another stuffy — often a sizing or duct issue a new system can fix.

Noisy or short-cycling

Banging, rattling or turning on and off every few minutes points to failing components.

Uses old R-22 refrigerant

R-22 is no longer produced. Recharging an older AC can cost hundreds per pound.

Still unsure? A comfort advisor can talk it through on the phone — no visit needed.

It's based on recent installs in our area for similar homes. Things like attic access, ductwork and electrical upgrades can move the price, which is why we give a firm written quote after a free in-home visit.

Square footage is only a starting point. We run a room-by-room load calculation that accounts for insulation, windows and sun exposure, so the system isn't oversized (which wastes energy) or undersized.

Modern cold-climate heat pumps work well in our winters and can lower bills, especially with available rebates. Some homes do best with a dual-fuel setup — a heat pump with a gas furnace backup for the coldest nights.

New installs include a 10-year manufacturer parts warranty (with registration) and our own 10-year labor warranty, plus two years of free tune-ups.

Absolutely. Our $89 diagnostic is credited toward the repair, and we'll tell you honestly if a repair makes more sense than a replacement.
